A. An endodontist is a dentist who has received special graduate training for a minimum of two years in endodontic procedures. Because they are specialists, endodontists provide only endodontic services in their practice. Endodontists are also able to find the cause of oral and facial pain that is difficult to diagnose.
Q. What should I expect during my appointment?
A. Upon your arrival, you will be asked to provide us with information concerning your dental and medical health, insurance providers and contact information. You will be seated, and the dental assistant will review your symptoms, determine which tooth is involved and take the necessary radiographs. The endodontist will examine your problem tooth, do any necessary tests and review your signs and symptoms. The endodontist will determine a diagnosis and tell you whether you need endodontic treatment. If you need treatment, you will be advised which tooth is involved and the cost. Once you sign the consent form, treatment will begin.
The endodontist will give the appropriate local anesthetic. The tooth will be opened, cleansed and shaped. Medication will be placed into the canals, and a temporary filling will be put into the tooth. At the next appointment, the endodontist will fill the shaped canals with a filling material and sealer.
